A human’s basic instinct is survival, but when faced with the question of whether I want to survive a nuclear war, my answer is a definite no. Why? Well, there are multiple reasons:
First of all, you never really survive a nuclear war. You just prolong your agony. Even with those lucky enough not to be wiped out by blasts of nuclear bombs, chances are they wouldn’t survive the after effects. The of the living cell’s molecular structure of those underneath the mushroom cloud will breakdown. This would result in vomiting, skin peeling from the bones, blindness, etc. Even those who are seemingly at a safe distance will have health problems later on because of the radioactive run-offs from rivers and lakes, radiation in the air, and even ingestion of affected animals and plants.
Are you familiar with radiation? Offspring of nuclear war survivors may be born deformed due to exposure to radiation. They may be born with congenital diseases, lack limbs, or have slow mental and physical development. Survival of the species mainly lies on its ability to reproduce and if the human offspring are not well-equipped to survive because of the diseases brought about by radiation, then the whole human race might not survive at all.
Animals and plants near the location of war which wouldn’t killed by the blasts would have high levels of radiation. People would not be able to eat them. There would be a high demand for meat and vegetables in other parts of the world (a “safe” distance from the nuclear blasts), therefore, driving up their prices. And don’t forget that radiation would be in the air and in the bodies of water. Well, basically, meat from another part of the world that MIGHT not be affected by radiation would be worth its weight in gold.
This is why if a nuclear war breaks out, I’d rather be instantly killed by the blast than suffer through all that.
